Amr El Shafei Joined Banque du Caire (BdC) as Executive Vice Chairman on Jan 1st 2018. He has recently been appointed as a Board member of Holding Company for Tourism and Hotels, H.O.T.A.C. as well as Board member of Cairo Leasing Corp. Before joining BdC, he was Group Head of Corporate Banking, Debt & Structured Finance at The National Bank of Egypt (NBE), Board Member of Al AHLY Capital Holding and of Al AHLY Leasing.
Prior to NBE, El Shafei worked with Barclays Africa as Regional Head of Corporate Banking & Corporate Products for Egypt, Kenya & Tanzania based out of Egypt. He was also member of the Executive Committee for Corporate & Investment Banking for Africa (except SA). He joined Barclays Bank in Egypt as the Corporate Banking Director in Nov 2012 moving from Barclays UAE. He served with Barclays UAE in 2008 as Head of Extended Coverage Countries (GCC) where he spent c. 1.5 yrs after-which he moved on as Head of Corporate Coverage for Abu Dhabi & Northern Emirates (Sharjah & the Northern Emirates) where he spent circa 2.5 yrs.
El Shafei moved to Barclays from Citigroup in UAE where he served as Vice President in Corporate Finance responsible for coverage and origination; focusing on GREs & Top Tier Local Corporates. He had also worked with Citigroup in Cairo as an RM & Leasing Product Manager and with Mashreqbank in Dubai with its International Corporate Division, managing Saudi Arabia, Bahrain & Kuwait. Prior to his time with Citi’s Corporate Bank in Egypt, he did on-the-job training program with Bank of New York in Colorado & New York as part of the Egyptian Government’s Executive Training Program back in 1999. The latter was during his time as Marketing & Credit Manager for Incolease (The International Company for Leasing) where he spent 2 years as one of the core team setting up the Firm’s portfolio & credit policies.

Before Incolease, El Shafei spent 5 years with HSBC’s Corporate Bank in Egypt where he started his career and did his Executive Training Program.
